It isn't until much later in life that he realises that it's the small moments, like comforting from a nightmare or reading a bedtime story, that will be the ones that he truly appreciates in the end.

Guilt had always gotten the best of Gabriel. He tried to not let it get to him, but whenever he did something wrong, and something that he regretted, it would eat away at him until he somehow managed to forgive himself for what he’d done, or get forgiveness from the person he had hurt in his wrong doing.
